Virtual Field Trips
Virtual Field trips range from simple website visits, to high definition interactive video conferencing. All five high schools in SD23 have access to dedicated LifeSize HD videoconferencing systems which enable realtime high definition interactive video conferencing.
We have linked to a variety of content providers which can be used to identify content providers for your Virtual Field Trip. Below is a checklist to help you plan and implement a successful virtual field trip. A non-profit US organization specializing in access to live interactive video conferencing content for K-12 classrooms and teacher professional development. CILC lists over 1200 unique teacher evaluated K-12 interactive distance learning programs from over 200 content providers. CILC also has a rating scale for their content providers and identifies exemplary programs (Pinnacle Award).
A videoconference database sponsored by Polycom (Video conference hardware manufacturer). Contains information about programs from over 250 content providers and includes 2012 Teachers’ Favourite Awards.
NoodleTrip is a private database which lists over 150 content providers in a searchable database.
A collaborative videoconference project that gives you and your students an opportunity to learn with another school or classroom. A database of authors that will Skype with your class (many for free!). Although Skype is generally lower quality when compared to IP Videoconferencing (like LifeSize) it is easily accessible in the classroom through a computer/projector and/or Smart Board.
